THE STORY OF HOW BIG LARRY'S BERRIES CAME TO BE
One early spring evening Big Larry was chillin’ in his favorite armchair, watching his National Geographic station, (or was he reading one of Louis Lamour books for the 12th time… he can’t remember, after all he IS 70something, don’t ya know) ANYWAY, he was doing something, and all of a sudden started to crave some of his lovely wife Dorothy’s delicious Strawberry Shortcake. He went to bed that night, but kept tossing and turning while visions of Strawberries danced in his wee little head. Big Larry woke up that next morning on a mission to find the best strawberries Menifee had to offer. Unable to find the sweet juicy strawberries from his dreams, and unwilling to pay an arm and a leg for the bland Strawberries the stores carried, Big Larry took to the road with his grandson Seth.
Up and down the coast of California they drove... eating strawbery after strawberry after strawberry. Many strawberries later, Big Larry and Seth found the BEST Strawberry Growers in California. These few growers grew the best.... the BIG, juicy, sweet Stawberries that Big Larry dreamed of.
One day, shortly thereafter, Seth asked his Grandpa, "Hey Gramps, do you think I could build a Strawberry Stand and have my OWN business, so that I can sell these BIG, juicy, sweet Strawberries of your dreams?" "Hmmmm..." said Big Larry softly, thinking about how nice it would be for his 9 grandkids living in Menifee to have good jobs to help them pay their way through college, "Maybe we could have a Strawberry Stand, or two… or 3…or...."
And THAT is how Big Larry’s Strawberry stands began. (Or something like that… he can’t quite remember, cause he just can't remember things like he used to. <wink>)
Seth built and opened his first strawberry stand in Hemet in April 2010. With the help of his family, he and his siblings just opened their stand in Menifee on May 1st, 2010, and are hoping to open stands in Lake Elsinore and Temecula in the near future.
